Controlling your Nest Learning Thermostat from the Nest app or the Web

Here’s a quick tour of how you can use the Nest app or the Web to control your Nest Learning Thermostat and learn more about your energy usage.

Adding a new Nest Thermostat to your Nest Account

If you're new to Nest

Select the add Thermostat option from the Nest app or the Web home screen.

If you already own a Nest product

Tap the menu icon in the top right of the Nest app or Web home screen while viewing the home where the Nest Learning Thermostat is installed.

Next, follow the on screen instructions to add your Nest Thermostat to your Nest Account.

Quick tips

Accessing your Nest Thermostat

When you first open the Nest app or log in to your Nest Account on the Web, you’ll see your home and all the Nest products that are associated with your account.

At a glance, you’ll be able to see the current status of all of your Nest Thermostats, including the current target temperature and if your system is currently heating or cooling.

Just click or tap on the thermostat that you’d like to adjust or learn more about.

Adjust the current target temperature

Swipe or click and drag the image of the Nest Thermostat. Move the outer ring clockwise to increase the temperature or counter-clockwise to decrease it.

To easily fine tune your adjustments, simply click or tap the up and down arrows above and below the current target temperature.

Switch between Heating, Cooling, Heat • Cool, and Off modes

Just click or tap on the menu icon in the upper right corner of the Home screen. The first option on the list will show you the current mode.

If you have both heating and cooling, you can switch between them, into Heat • Cool mode, or turn your Nest Thermostat off. If you only have heating, you can switch between heating and off.

Click or tap on this option to switch.

Turn on the fan without heating or cooling

If your system is capable of controlling your fan independent of heating or cooling, you can turn it on from here. Just click or tap on the menu icon in the upper right corner of the Home screen.

Select Fan Timer and then Start.

See the Settings information below to learn how to adjust when and how long your Nest Thermostat should run your fan.

Viewing your Energy history

Click or tap on the menu icon in the upper right corner of the Home screen. Click or tap on Energy History to see your heating, cooling and fan usage for the last 10 days.

Adjust your schedule

Click or tap on the menu icon in the upper right corner. Select Schedule to view/edit your heating or cooling schedule.

Thermostat Settings

To get to your Nest Thermostat Settings, click or tap on the icon in the upper right corner of the Home screen and select Thermostat Settings from the list of options.

Where

Here you can edit the name of your Nest Learning Thermostat and add an optional description to help you identify it.

Away

Here you can adjust your Away temperatures.

Nest Sense

Here you’ll see status of the different Nest learning features. You can turn On or Off Auto-Away, Cool to Dry, Auto-Schedule, Early-On, Sunblock and Airwave.

Fan

If it’s supported by your heating and cooling system, you can use your Nest Learning Thermostat to turn on your fan for a set amount of time, on demand or every day, to circulate the air in your home without engaging heating or cooling.

View the current heating and cooling equipment settings and adjust Safety Temperatures.

You can also set an Air Filter Reminder.

Technical Info

View details about your Nest Learning Thermostat, including:

  • Model
  • Serial number
  • Software version
  • MAC address
  • Public IP address
  • When it last contacted the Nest servers
  • Battery level

Temperature Units

Switch between displaying the temperature in Fahrenheit and Celsius.

Thermostat Lock

From here you can:

  • View the current lock status
  • Lock your thermostat
  • Unlock your thermostat

Remove Thermostat

Click or tap here if you’d like to remove the thermostat from your Nest Account.

Note: Any changes made on any Nest app apply to your Nest Account and your Nest Learning Thermostat. For example, changing the temperature units to Celsius on the Nest app will also change the temperature units displayed on your Nest Learning Thermostat.
