What is Auto-Away?

Auto-Away saves energy by reducing heating and cooling in empty homes. Instead of having to turn the thermostat down every time you leave the house (and back up when you return), Nest turns itself down automatically when it senses that you’re away.

Explaining Nest thermostat numbers

Throughout nest.com, on our packaging, and in our ads and videos we tell you how certain Nest Learning Thermostat features can help you save energy, how often they’re used, and how the Nest Learning Thermostat can affect your life. This article summarizes where those numbers come from.

Frequently asked questions about Nest & MyEnergy

In May 2013, Nest acquired MyEnergy, an online service that allows you to gather all of your electricity, gas and water usage and bills in one place, and lets you share them with friends and family.

What is Cool to Dry?

Cool to Dry uses your air conditioner (AC) to reduce excessive humidity and help create a healthier environment in your home, especially when you’re away. Cool to Dry can be expensive, so we only recommend it if your summers are very humid and you don’t have another, more efficient way to dehumidify your home.

What is Sunblock?

Up to 60% of thermostats are exposed to direct sunlight throughout the year, causing them to read a temperature up to 25ºF/14°C higher than the actual temperature in the room. Nest’s Sunblock technology automatically adjusts to direct sunlight so that Nest reads and sets the correct temperature.
