What is Auto-Away?

Auto-Away saves energy by reducing heating and cooling in empty homes. Instead of having to turn the thermostat down every time you leave the house (and back up when you return), Nest turns itself down automatically when it senses that you’re away.

What do Nest's error codes mean?

Nest will present an error if it detects a problem with the wires connected to its base or with the Internet connection. This article describes what they mean and provides tools to get them resolved.

Explaining Nest thermostat numbers

Throughout nest.com, on our packaging, and in our ads and videos we tell you how certain Nest Learning Thermostat features can help you save energy, how often they’re used, and how the Nest Learning Thermostat can affect your life. This article summarizes where those numbers come from.

What is Cool to Dry?

Cool to Dry uses your air conditioner (AC) to reduce excessive humidity and help create a healthier environment in your home, especially when you’re away. Cool to Dry can be expensive, so we only recommend it if your summers are very humid and you don’t have another, more efficient way to dehumidify your home.

What is Sunblock?

Up to 60% of thermostats are exposed to direct sunlight throughout the year, causing them to read a temperature up to 25ºF/14°C higher than the actual temperature in the room. Nest’s Sunblock technology automatically adjusts to direct sunlight so that Nest reads and sets the correct temperature.

What is Rush Hour Rewards?

Rush Hour Rewards is a service that helps you earn money back from your energy company by using less energy when everyone else is using more. Rush Hour Rewards is only available to customers of Nest’s energy company partners.

What is Seasonal Savings?

It turns out many people could save a lot of money by making minor tweaks to their schedule. Nest’s Seasonal Savings can now make those tweaks for you to help you save energy and stay comfortable. Seasonal Savings is only available to customers of Nest’s energy company partners.

About the Nest energy partners

We’ve partnered with leading progressive energy companies in the US to help you earn rewards and lower your energy bills. If you’re a customer of one of our energy partners, you can get rebates and access to new Nest services like Seasonal Savings and Rush Hour Rewards.

What is Auto-Tune?

Auto-Tune is a unique Nest thermostat technology that finds ways to lower your energy bill, then automatically implements them for you. Today, Auto-Tune powers two Nest services: Rush Hour Rewards and Seasonal Savings.

About the Nest Energy Report

The Nest Energy Report is an email sent out by Nest summarizing last month’s heating and cooling usage and providing tips on how to save more energy.

How do I turn off Nest Auto-Schedule learning and use Nest as a programmable thermostat?

When Auto-Schedule is turned on, Nest adds setpoints and changes temperatures on your schedule based on your temperature adjustments. If you have a regular schedule, it works great. But Auto-Schedule may not make sense if you have an unpredictable schedule or are using Nest in a vacation home. If that’s the case, you may want to turn off Auto-Schedule and manually program a schedule that Nest will never change.
