Exploring the Nest Mobile app for your smartphone or tablet

The Nest Mobile app allows you to control your Nest Learning Thermostat from your Internet connected iPhone, iPod touch, iPad or Android smartphone. Just log in with your Nest Account to view and control your Nest Learning Thermostats.




Getting Started


To use the Nest Mobile app, you’ll need:

  • A supported mobile device with Internet access:
    • iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad with iOS 4.2 or later.
    • Android smartphone with Android 2.2 (“Froyo”) or later.
  • A Nest Account. If you don’t have one yet, make one now. You just need an email address.
  • A Nest Learning Thermostat that’s installed and connected to Wi-Fi.

What Android devices work with the Nest Mobile app for Android?

 

Download the Nest Mobile app for free from Apple’s App Store or Android Market. Launch it and log in with your Nest Account. Once logged in, you’ll see a picture of a house and your Nest Learning Thermostat if you have paired it with your Nest Account. If you haven’t yet paired your thermostat to your Nest Account, see the article below.


How do I pair my Nest Learning Thermostat with a Nest Account?


Once your Nest Learning Thermostat is paired with your Nest Account, you’ll have full control over your Nest and your heating and cooling system.  If you have 2 homes or multiple Nest Learning Thermostats associated with your account, you’ll see all of them here.


Important Note: Turn your phone sideways to see all the features of the Nest Mobile app.


Controlling your Nest


First, tap on the round Nest Learning Thermostat icon for the thermostat that you would like to control.


Important Note: You’ll need to turn your phone sideways to access features beyond changing the current target temperature.

Making changes to Nest


Tap the round thermostat icon to select your Nest.

Adjust the current target temperature


Tap the up and down arrows above and below the current target temperature.

Switch between Heating, Cooling, Range and Off modes


If you have both heating and cooling, you’ll see two dots near the bottom of the window. Tap on them to switch between modes or activate a Range Schedule.

Tap on SCHEDULE in the menu at the bottom of the window to view/edit your heating or cooling schedule.

Tap on ENERGY to see your Energy History for the last 10 days.

Settings

At a Glance


Get an overview of Nest and your home. Change the name of your Nest, switch the display temperature between Fahrenheit and Celsius, check on the current and target temp and switch your fan between Auto and Always On.

Here you’ll see status of the different Nest learning features. You can pause or activate Auto-Schedule and Auto-Away.

Here you can reset Auto-Away.


Important Note: Any changes made on any Nest app apply to your Nest Account and your Nest Learning Thermostat. For example, changing the temperature scale to Celsius on the Nest Mobile app will also change the temperature scale on your Nest Learning Thermostat.


About Locations


If you have multiple homes with multiple Nest Learning Thermostats associated with this account, you’ll see all of them here. Your Nest Account supports up to 10 Nest Learning Thermostats and two locations per account.


Quick tips

Making changes to a location


Tap the house icon to select that location. You can tell what’s selected by looking at the pointer at the bottom of the screen.

Putting a location into Away


Tap the HOME/AWAY toggle near the bottom of the screen.

Switching between locations


Just swipe to the left or the right.
