Nest Account Frequently Asked Questions

A Nest Account is what you use for just about everything you do with Nest, including using the Nest app or the Web to control and monitor your Nest products and participating on the Nest Community.

Do I need a Nest Account to use my Nest products?

While your Nest products will work great without being connected to a Nest Account, many of the key features are only available once you’ve paired your Nest products to your Nest Account.

Your Nest Account allows you to securely access and control your Nest products with the Nest app on a mobile device or on the Web with a computer. Basically, you have control from any place you can get an Internet connection. In addition, when your Nest products are connected to Wi-Fi and your Nest Account they’ll automatically get software updates.

How do I create a Nest Account?

You can create your free Nest Account from the Nest app on your smartphone or tablet or on the Web.

To create a Nest Account on your smartphone or tablet:

To create a Nest Account on your computer:

  • Go to nest.com
  • Click on "Control your Nest" at the top of the page
  • Click Sign Up
  • Enter your email address
  • Create a secure password that is at least 6 characters
  • Click on Sign Up to finish

How many Nest products can I connect to my Nest Account?

With each Nest Account you can access and control up to 10 Nest Learning Thermostats and 10 Nest Protects installed in 2 different homes.

Can I share my Nest Account with someone else?

Yes. You can share your Nest Account credentials with anyone else in your household who’d like to access and control the Nest products in your home.

Important note: Anyone with access to the account will have full control over all your Nest products via the Nest app or the Web. They will also share your access to the Nest Community.

How do I change my Nest Account email address?

Follow these steps to update your Nest Account email address:

  • Log into your account with the Nest app or on the Web.
  • From the home screen, select the menu icon in the upper right corner.
  • Select the account icon (the silhouette of a person).
  • Select Settings from the list of options.
  • Select Change Email.
  • Enter your new email address and the password for your Nest account.

When you change your email address, we’ll send an email to the new address to verify that the address you entered was correct.

How do I recover a forgotten password?

Just select the Forgot Password option from the login screen on the Nest app or on the Web. Type your Nest Account email address and we’ll send an email with a password reset link.
