This article lists Wi-Fi access points that have known compatibility issues with the Nest thermostat

Using Nest with some Wi-Fi access points may result in limited connectivity, excessive battery drain or elevated ambient temperatures detected by Nest. In some cases the firmware on these devices can be updated or a setting changed to resolve the issue, however in other cases, Nest is incompatible with the access point.

Open-source access point firmware such as DD-WRT, OpenWRT and Tomato are not supported by Nest. While some versions may work well with Nest, compatibility may vary from release to release.

Here are some details on which access point makes models may have an issue with Nest when using the manufacturer's firmware.
