How do I turn off Nest Auto-Schedule learning and use Nest as a programmable thermostat?

When Auto-Schedule is turned on, Nest adds setpoints and changes temperatures on your schedule based on your temperature adjustments. If you have a regular schedule, it works great. But Auto-Schedule may not make sense if you have an unpredictable schedule or are using Nest in a vacation home. If that’s the case, you may want to turn off Auto-Schedule and manually program a schedule that Nest will never change.

Auto-Schedule doesn’t change or remove temperatures that you’ve manually entered or modified on your Nest Learning Thermostat or one of the Nest apps. However, if you’re turning your thermostat up and down at inconsistent times, Auto-Schedule may add extra temperatures to your schedule where you don’t want them.

If that’s the case, turn off Auto-Schedule. Any setpoints that Auto-Schedule has already learned before you turned it off will stay on your schedule, so you should manually edit your schedule to your liking. You’ll still benefit from Nest’s energy saving and comfort features like Auto-Away, the Leaf, and Early On, but your schedule will stay just how you left it.

How to turn off Auto-Schedule on Nest

  • On your thermostat, press the ring and choose SETTINGS.
  • Turn the ring to NEST SENSE and press to select.
  • Turn to highlight AUTO-SCHEDULE and press to select.
  • Turn to highlight NO and press to select.

How to turn off Auto-Schedule on Nest Web or Mobile apps

You can also pause Auto-Schedule from the any of the Nest apps. Just log in using your Nest Account on the Nest Web app or the Nest Mobile app and follow these steps:

  • If you’re using the Nest Mobile app on a smartphone, turn your phone sideways.
  • Select your Nest Learning Thermostat.
  • Click or tap on SETTINGS.
  • Click or tap on NEST SENSE.
  • Click or tap on AUTO-SCHEDULE
  • Toggle to switch it from ON to OFF.

That's it. Nest is now a programmable thermostat.

You can change the temperature without worrying about extra setpoints showing up on your schedule, and adjust your schedule at any time on Nest or the Web and Mobile apps.

Note: Nest Auto-Schedule is turned off, but you can restart it at any time. When you restart Auto-Schedule, Nest will take your current schedule and use it to start learning again.
